The Missile Defense Advocacy Alliance is honored to announce the appointment of Mr. Tom Goffus to its Board of Directors. Tom Goffus has over four decades of experience in national security in the U.S. government, including 27 years in the United States Air Force, and most recently internationally, as the Assistant Secretary General for Operations at NATO, responsible for support to Ukraine, defense and security cooperation with NATO partners, and defense of the Alliance.

Current Roles

Mr. Goffus is Executive Partner, Global Security at Elara Nova, which provides professional services focused on helping business and government maximize strategic advantages, serves on the Senior Leader Steering Group for the ADK Battlelab and National Security Research Center, and is a Distinguished Visiting Fellow at Stanford University’s Hoover Institution.  

Leadership Experience

Tom has served across multiple branches of the US government, including as senior advisor at the State Department, Director for Strategic and Eastern Europe Affairs on the National Security Council, Policy Director of the Senate Armed Services Committee, and Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for European and NATO Policy.  

Education and Flight Experience

Tom is a distinguished graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy and has a Master’s Degree from the University of Washington and the Naval War College.  

During his Air Force career, he accumulated over 3,100 flight hours in the cockpit, including as a mission commander and instructor pilot in the F-15 Eagle, with deployments in the Indo-Pacific, Europe, and the Middle East.
