David's Sling is a joint U.S./Israeli project to defense against medium to long range rockets. David's Sling is centered around an interceptor named "Stunner." The Stunner inteceptor is a two-stage missile, with two targeting and guidance systems installed in its nose-tip (a radar and an electro-optic sensor). In 2006 Rafael was awarded a contract to develop a defense system to counter the threat of medium- to long-range rockets with ranges between 70km and 250km.
Stunner is an advanced multi-mission, multi-platform interceptor designed for insertion into integrated air and missile defense systems. Stunner is employable in a variety of engagement scenarios that combine established ground, sea and air-based sensors. Stunner’s compatibility with established canister and rail launchers offers maximum operational and deployment flexibility. Stunner’s fire-and-forget concept of operation requires minimal cueing from sensor resources to ensure rate of fire, even during saturation attacks.
