Background
Because of the speeding up pace in the Iranian development of ballistic missile capability United Arab Emirates made a strategic decision to move forward with the ballistic missile defense in close cooperation with the United States.
Current Developments
The decision to sell Terminal High Altitude Area Defense units to United Arab Emirates was made in 2008 during the Bush administration and the contract to deploy Patriot Advanced Capability PAC-3 was awarded to Raytheon in 2009.
Capabilities
Planned procurement of 10 Patriot Advanced Capability PAC-3 ballistic missile defense systems with up to 200 missiles, as well as Terminal High Altitude Area Defense ballistic missile defense system.
