Background

Spain is a longstanding ally in the NATO. It has cooperated with the US in the framework of US-Spain Missile Defense Technical Group.

 

Current Development

Spain is undergoing its missile defense capability modernization and is a part of SeaSparrow consortium for purchasing RIM-162 Evolved Sea Sparrow Missile.

 

Capabilities

Spain has an airborne Sentinel RMK and two artillery locating radars, type AN/TPQ-36 Firefinder. It has 4 Aegis system equipped vessels deployed with one more approved by the government in 2006.
