7/2/2012 - Iran Tests Surface-to-Air Missiles, Threatens Israel
Iran saysit's working on missiles that can penetrate Israel's high-tech air defensesystems.
IranianRevolutionary Guards announced a three-day military drill of its surface-to-airmissiles that will simulate attacks on its enemies.
IRG Gen.Ami Ali Hajizadeh, chief of the airspace unit, said Iran is nearly ready totest a new missile that can penetrate Israel's Iron Dome anti-missile defensesystem, adding that an Israeli military attack on Iranian nuclear plants would"provide us a reason to remove Israel from the earth."
Hajizadeh'sannouncement comes as the European Union's embargo of Iranian oil begins.
OnFriday, Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said ajoint military exercise by the United States and Israel postponed earlier thisyear, was rescheduled for October.
